A Chaning World Order
At a time when the globe appears more divided than ever, the last United Nations General Assembly demonstrated that, even in retreat, American might continues to underpin the global order. President Trump's frank warning that "your countries are going to hell" defied diplomatic norms, ushering in a new era of US engagement characterized by selective commitment and unrepentant self-interest. Despite the hyperbole, Washington's influence quietly continues, as seen by the ambitious Middle East peace endeavor in Sharm el-Sheikh, one that broadens the table of nations while depending on American strategic oversight rather than soldiers or resources. This emerging leadership model, leaner and transactional but still indispensable, indicates that the United States may be retreating militarily but not intellectually, as it redefines what power and peace mean in the twenty-first century.
